The Academy@StudyBWFC..
Study@BWFC has set up its own Academy at the Reebok Stadium, thanks to generous sponsorship from the Barclaycard ‘Free Kicks’ project. Academy members have been chosen from those pupils who were given the ‘Player of the Match’ award from their previous, respective sessions. The reward is an opportunity for the 10 to 14 year olds to attend the Academy from 4-6pm every Monday during the year, where they can continue their excellent progress, using the centre’s extensive facilities. Some academy members have already undertaken the role of Junior Stadium Tour Guide, under the tutelage of Tom Hall, the club’s Tour Manager, helping to show the primary pupils, coming to the ‘ Playing for Success’ study sessions, the stadium. Academy students are expected to take on additional responsibilities and be involved in trying out new learning activities, evaluating software, contributing to the centre’s decision-making processes, as a member of the student steering committee, and passing on their ICT skills and knowledge in ‘demos’ to new ‘ Playing for Success’ students. Visits are planned during the year, taking in other PfS centres at Manchester United and Preston, whilst visiting the National Football Museum, as well as visits to the Club’s Euxton training ground to view the club’s ICT and video facilities. A visit to Manchester’s Chinatown to improve their awareness of the Chinese culture, a facet of the diverse, modern British culture we all share, is also planned. We also hope to improve our juggling skills by attending a local workshop, run by the circus community. Passing on these skills to football squad members may not be so far away! Do you like our Academy Rap? It was Performed at the Spring 2004 Celebration Evening.
