Study@BWFC Gifted & Talented Summer School 2004

The Study Centre held a Gifted and Talented Summer School From Friday 27th August to September 3rd 2004. It was Supported by Bolton EAZ.

 written by, Ryan Forster (Turton High School year 7) and Paul Langstreth (Withins High School year 8).
During the last week of our summer holidays we spent a week at Study@BWFC at the Reebok Stadium taking part in a Gifted and talented Summer School.  It was a chance to improve our learning through different ICT activities and have fun at the same time! 30 Pupils from many Bolton schools took part including: Withins, Little Lever, Westhoughton High, Smithills, Turton , Canon Slade , Sharples and Elton – (Bury)

We completed many challenges and activities including; building and programming robots, and team challenges such as Egg Parachute drops in the stadium! We also spent time making movies, designing CD covers and making music on the computers. We even learnt some Circus Skills, like juggling, stilt walking and unicycling!  One of the biggest challenges we had to do was to make plan, film and edit our own animated films.  The films were cartoon animations to celebrate the success of Team GB at the Olympic games. At the end we had an Oscar ceremony and a movie premiere!  The best films were judged by members of BWFC Publicity and Promotions Department.
We also had lots of quizzes and competitions, which meant some big prizes like complimentary match tickets to watch Bolton Wanderers beat Liverpool 1-0 this season!    As well as this, each student will receive two complementary match tickets for a future match.
We reckon that the summer school is well cool, (ph’a,t) excellent, coz we got to make new friends and met some of the players too!Oh yeah, thanks to all the staff too, they are;
Janet-the boss, Andy D, Anthony B, Alison W, Ali G – (in de office)Emily O, Sue H, and not forgetting Ed the computer wizard!

Tah ya all!
