BWFC Language Evening – Tuesday 6th
December 2005 Tout Va Bien !
See Photos below/ or on Meet the Players.
On Tuesday 6th December,
Study@BWFC held the first ‘Modern Foreign Language Evening’ for Bolton schools.
Children were delighted to spend a couple of hours with their BWFC heroes,
interviewing them in both French and Spanish!
The event was held to Celebrate the ‘National Playing for Success Open Week’ and
was partially funded by the Department for Education and Skills.
Khalilou Fadiga, Jay Jay Okocha, Fabrice Fernandes, El-Hadj Diouf, Radhi Jaidi,
Jared Borgetti, Abdoulaye Faye and Ivan Campo all gave up their time to
encourage the children to use and develop their language skills. The team moved
around the room and carried out four, twenty minute interviews with the young
people, who couldn’t believe their luck!!
Over 60 children and their teachers
attended the event, held in the Chairman's Suite at the Reebok. The Study
Centre was inundated with demands for extra places – mostly from teachers who
wanted to come too! The evening events also included a group of ‘budding’
reporters from Year 7 at Westhoughton High School, who recorded interviews with
guests and players. They will be editing all the clips together to make a short
radio broadcast about the event, which will hopefully be ‘aired’ on Wish FM and
Tower FM!
Schools in attendance were,
Westhoughton, Hayward, Withins, Mount St Josephs, St Josephs RC, Turton,
Ladybridge, Thornleigh, Sharples, St James CE, Smithills and Canon Slade
Secondary schools, St Columbas RC Primary School and Rumworth Special School.
Josh Baines, Head boy at Turton High
School and Zainab Wadiwala from Hayward School performed the final honours by
thanking the players in French and Spanish at the end of the evening!
The event was filmed by Sky Sports and the BBC for Match of the Day! It will be
shown on television on Sunday 18th December at 8 am on BBC2 – so
don’t miss it !
